Project manager’s mission to Issyk-Kul Oblast/POPs training, February, 2018

From February 5 till February 8, 2018 the mission of Mr. Anssi Karppinen, Project manager took place to Issyk-Kul Oblast. The mission covered site visit to waste water treatment plants in Balykchy and Karakol towns, including meeting with wastewater treatment plants’ Administration.

In the course of site visit the SYKE’s representatives have got information about the operational system and technological process of municipal wastewaters treatment in both resort towns as well as discussed current problems and capacity building plans.

From February 5 till February 9, 2018 the next stage of training how to determine POPs (included into the list of the Stockholm Convention on POPs) in environmental samples with assistance of Gas Chromatograph with electron capture defector (GH-ECD) available in the Laboratory of Issyk-Kul Territorial Administration of SAEPF.

The training covered such tasks as calibration of instrument (GH-ECD) and starting of real samples analyses. Real samples of water and sediments used for measurement by GH-ECD have been taken from Son-Kul lake in August 2017. All samples were treated in Laboratory by IKTA SAEPF’s specialists based on skills gained during the previous trainings provided in the framework of Project. 

All obtained results will be used for Son-Kul lake State of Environment report, preparation of which is  one of the Projects tasks.
