The second POPs training, Kyrgyzstan, March 2017
On March 30-31 in Cholpon-Ata city at the laboratory of SAEPF Issyk-Kul Administration the second phase of POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) training has been held. The subject of the 2nd training is development of POPs determination method for Gas Chromatograph with electron capture defector (GH-ECD).
Trainers were the specialists from SYKE: Mr. Jari Nuutinen and Ms. Anne Markkanen. Participants were represented by the Lab specialists from IK Administration and general Directorate of Issyk-Kul Biosphere territory.
The training aimed in finding out the current status of the equipment as well as creating a proper method for GC in order to analyze POPs in the Stockholm convention list.
First attempts to find the location of each element on the chromatogram (Lindan, ppDDT, PCB 194, PCB 31, opDDT, PCB 128, PCB 189) were successful with the new method that was developed during the training.
Next steps will be the calibration of the element results.
After training completion, all participants have received certificates conforming their participation and acquisition of new skills and knowledge.
Also within the mission to Kyrgyzstan, SYKE’s experts performed technical assessment of GH-ECD operation status in SAEPF’s Lab in Bishkek city (Environment Monitoring Administration).
